The call on holiday that came with a £50,000 bonus

Guy opened a Windfall Bond after already using his ISA allowance for the year. As a higher‑rate taxpayer, prize‑paying accounts naturally appealed to him because the prizes are tax‑free. What particularly attracted him to the Windfall Bond was that it is not solely about the draw; the balance continues to earn interest each month, making it a sensible savings product first and foremost.

He also valued the reassurance of FSCS protection, and he appreciated the personal touches from Family Building Society. Seeing his surname printed above the logo on the bond certificate made it feel like a genuine mutual relationship rather than just another account number.

The call came on the last day of a week‑long family holiday. “We were sitting in the hotel lobby in Tenerife, enjoying one final drink together before heading to the airport”, he explained.  When our Customer Service Representative Gillian called, he assumed it might be something routine, or possibly a query about the account, so he stepped away to take the call.

After confirming his details, she calmly told him that he had won £50,000. He was completely stunned and found himself pacing around the terrace trying to take it in. They chatted briefly about the weather, sunshine in Tenerife versus rain back home, which made the moment feel even more surreal.

Just before boarding the flight, he logged into his online banking and saw the £50,000 credited to his account. That was when the news truly sank in.

With two milestone birthdays in the family this year, a few surprises were soon booked. The following day was Valentine’s Day, and while meeting friends for dinner, he was “delighted to tell them that the bottomless brunch was on him!”

The prize has given the family genuine peace of mind and greater flexibility for the future. However, what matters most to him is that the Windfall Bond remains a steady, well‑structured savings product backed by a mutual society. Guy stated that “the win was extraordinary, but it was the confidence in the account that attracted him in the first place”.
