What's Not to Like? Mrs Rushworth's £10,000 Windfall Bond Win

Mrs Rushworth comes from a very scientific, data-based career background, and it was this approach that led her to discover Family Building Society. When looking to invest some funds, Mrs Rushworth used a number of resources to find the best rates which ultimately resulted in her investing with the Society.

She recalls her first investment was many years ago “I first discovered Family Building Society several years ago… I came to see them as an attractive place to invest. Over the years the Society have had some very competitive rates which drove me to place funds with them, in a number of different products.”

Mrs Rushworth recalls she tried to invest in the Windfall Bond a few years back, but the product had been withdrawn. She later discovered that was due to the product being so popular that all the available Bonds had been sold. She made a mental note that it was a good product, and that it was something worth keeping tabs on, checking back to see if and hopefully when it became available again.

As an existing investor with the Society, Mrs Rushworth had a login to our Online Service, which allows you to view and manage your savings accounts online. In September 2024, she logged into her accounts and noticed that the Windfall Bond was available again. She then checked the rates and carried out a review of the product in the way she always did for her investments, and concluded the product was still a good investment, so proceeded to buy seven Windfall Bonds.

Mrs Rushworth said from memory, when she carried out her review on the Windfall Bond, it was offering the most competitive rate of any of our savings products at that time. Plus, the monthly free prize draw aspect of the product meant that if she was fortunate enough to win, this would boost the return on her investment, although she confesses she never thought that would come to fruition.

Following her review, she was happy that the product still had a highly competitive rate, and it was with a trusted establishment she knew well. Plus, there was a chance for a prize to boost her return, so she concluded “What’s not to like about this product?” and decided to invest.

To her surprise and delight, just two months after investing she was fortunate enough to win one of the major prizes of £10,000! Commenting on her win Mrs Rushworth said “I’m so grateful to everyone at the Society. I don’t fully understand how I came to be this fortunate, but I am very thankful all the same.”

Mrs Rushworth was also very pleased to discover that winning a prize did not exclude her from future prize draws, as we explained that all of her Windfall Bonds would be entered into future draws, so her chances of winning were exactly the same for each draw. She had thought that perhaps the winning bonds would be removed to give other investors greater opportunity but was pleasantly surprised to discover there was every chance she could be a repeat winner. In fact, since the product was first released in 2014, we have already had several repeat winners.
